Itinerary : Tunisia—School Trip

MONTREAL

Departure from Montreal Airport (P.E. Trudeau) on an international flight to Tunis.

Note: Please arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before departure.

TUNIS-HAMMAMET (66 km)

❖ Meals included : Supper / Lodging : 4* Hotel / Transport : Air-conditioned vehicle.

  • Arrival at Tunis-Carthage Airport. Meet and greet, followed by transfer to the hotel in Hammamet to check in.
  • The rest of the day is free to enjoy the pool and the hotel’s other amenities. Dinner will be served on site.

HAMMAMET–TUNIS–SIDI BOU SAÏD–HAMMAMET 167 km

  • After breakfast, depart for Tunis to explore its medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its rich architectural heritage, which reflects the architectural and artistic influences that have shaped its history. Take a stroll through its narrow streets lined with old houses and souks, and meet the local merchants. Explore the city center and have dinner there.
  • We’ll continue on to Sidi Bou Saïd, one of the most charming villages on Tunisia’s Mediterranean coast, featuring a cluster of pretty blue and white houses. You’ll have free time to stroll around.
  • Return to the seaside hotel in Hammamet. Dinner at the hotel.

HAMMAMET–EL JEM–MATMATA–DOUZ 474 km

  • After breakfast, we’ll head toEl Jem to visit its Roman colosseum, built in the 3rd century to host gladiator fights, chariot races, and circus games. The stadium, built entirely of cut stone, is a testament to the extraordinary ingenuity of Roman engineers. At the time, it could accommodate up to 35,000 spectators.
  • Continue on to the Berber village of Matmata to meet theBerber (Amazigh) peoplewho live in cave dwellings, and take a guided tour inside these homes , which feature the distinctive architecture typical of this mountain people. Welcome and light refreshments in the homes.
  • Jeep ride to the Saharan region of Douz.
  • Setting up camp in the middle of the Sahara Desert.
  • Dinner with musical entertainment provided by a Berber folk troupe.
  • Spend the night in a tent and experience the freedom of the desert people. Discover the vastness of the night sky and the tranquility offered by this landscape of dunes and sandy plains stretching endlessly into the distance!

DOUZ-TOZEUR 125 km

❖ Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner / Accommodations: 4-star accommodations / Transportation: Air-conditioned vehicle.

  • After breakfast, take a camel ride through the Tunisian Sahara amid some of the most extraordinary natural scenery.
  • Crossing the great salt lake, Chott El Jérid. It is a plain stretching nearly 100 km from east to west, which is seasonally flooded with saline water that limits vegetation growth. The landscape is somewhat surreal.
  • Planned photo stops at the wind-sculpted, needle-shaped dunes and at a hot spring located in the middle of the desert.
  • Arrival in Tozeur, a magnificent oasis located at the edge of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert.
  • Tour of the oasis and Eden Palm Park, a veritable open-air museum set in a palm grove, where you’ll learn everything there is to know about this fruit and its byproducts. On-site tasting of date-based products.
  • Students’ participation in an agricultural activity on the cultivated plots in the oasis.
  • Check-in at the hotel and dinner there.

TOZEUR-CHÉBIKA-TOZEUR 280 km

❖ Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner / Accommodations: 4-star hotel / Transportation: Air-conditioned vehicle.

  • After breakfast, a Jeep tour to the Atlas Mountains.
  • Continue on to the Berber villages of Chébika and Tamerza.
  • A photo stop at one of the “Star Wars” filming locations to capture a sunset over the dunes.
  • ATV tour in the Tozeur area and return to the hotel.
  • Dinner on site.

TOZEUR-GAFSA-KAIROUAN-SOUSSE

❖ Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner / 4-star accommodations / Transportation: Air-conditioned vehicle.

  • Tour of the city of Tozeur and its daily date market.
  • Continue on to the city of Gafsa through the mining basin region.
  • Destination Kairouan, the Tunisian holy city, with a photo stop at the Great Mosque, the oldest in all of Muslim Africa.
  • Arrival in Sousse and check-in at the hotel.

SOUSSE-HERGLA-SOUSSE 82 km

  • After breakfast, we’ll head to the Hergla Amusement Park. The day will be spent with the students participating in the park’s various activities (go-karting, bumperball, golf simulator, penalty kick challenge, foosball, zip line, paintball, and other challenge games…).
  • Return trip to the hotel and dinner there.
